Argentina

Aruba

·         Visas are not required to enter Aruba for US Citizens or those with a valid residence permit for the US.

·         Students staying for a full semester are required to complete a Tourist Permit Extension after arriving in Aruba.

·         Students staying for an academic year are required to apply for a Student Permit VISA.

·         Those going to the University of Aruba should contact UA’s Office of Internal Affairs for more information.

Australia

·         All US and international students studying in Australia are required to hold a Student Visa. Please visit the Australian Department of Home Affairs for step-by-step instructions.

Austria

Bhutan

·         The US and Bhutan have no diplomatic relationship, so there is no consulate or embassy service for US citizens going to Bhutan. US citizens will use the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi, India.

Botswana

Brazil

Chile

China

·         Visas are required for any length of study in China for US citizens. Those studying for less than 6 months will apply for a X2 visa. Those studying for more than 6 months will apply for a X1 visa. This visa will additionally a residence permit after entry in China.

·         Students will get a Visitor’s Visa-Type V for lengths of study up to 2 years.

Costa Rica

·         For stays up to 90 days, visas are not required for US citizens.

Croatia

·         A visa is required for US citizens for any length of stay in Croatia. For stays up to 90 days, students will obtain a Short-term visa. For stays for than 90 days a long-term visa is required.

Cuba

·         Visas are needed for all travel to Cuba for US citizens.

Cyprus

·         Visas are not needed for US citizens. A valid passport will still be required along with registering with ETIAS starting 2024.

Czech Republic

Denmark

The residence permit can be applied for online, but students will need to appear in person at the closest consulate for their biometrics to be recorded. Dominican Republic

·         US citizens can enter the Dominican Republic for up to 90 days without a visa.

Ecuador

·         Students studying in Ecuador for 180 days or less who also have not visited Ecuador in the past 365 days do not require a visa. Students will need to show their invitation letter from their host university at the point of entry.  All other students will require a temporary resident  visa.

Egypt

·         US citizens must have a visa to enter Egypt. A renewable tourist visa can be obtained on arrival at Egyptian airports.

·         Students can also apply for a visa before arrival if they wish through the electronic platform or the Egyptian Embassy in Washington, DC.

England

·         US students studying less than 6 months will obtain a visitor visa on arrival at the airport.

·         US students studying for longer than 6 months will be required to apply and obtain a Student Visa (previously called Tier 4 student visa). The application can be done online but will require an in-person appointment for your biometric information to be recorded. Details for those appointment will come with the student’s application.

Finland

·         Visas are not required for US citizens with stays under 90 days. However, current COVID related restrictions are currently in place and may supersede this visa-free travel.

Mexico

·         Visas are not required for US citizens to enter Mexico for stays under 180 days. However, it is recommended that all students apply for a student visa before entering Mexico. Upon arrival, students will additionally need to apply for a residence permit.

·         Visas are not required for US citizens with stays under 90 days. However, those staying more than 30 days will need to register with Mongolian Immigration Agency within 7 days of your arrival.

Morocco

·         Visas are not required for stays under 90 days for US citizens. However, students are required to apply for residency upon arrival in Morocco. Students staying over 90 days will need to extend their stay with the General Local Police Office before their original permit expires. All documents must be translated into Arabic or French by a local translation agency upon arrival in Morocco as well.

Nepal

·         Visas are required for all US citizens entering Nepal.

·         Visas for 15, 30, or 90 days can be applied for through the Nepalese embassy or on arrival through local immigration offices.

·         A multiple entry tourist visa valid for 5 years can only be applied for through the Nepalese embassy or consulate in the US for US citizens.

Netherlands

South Africa

·         For programs longer than 90 days, students are required to obtain a Study Visa. 

·         Study visa applications must be submitted in-person, by appointment, at the South African Consulate in your jurisdiction. An FBI Background Check may be required and you are required to submit your actual passport to the consulate, along with your study visa application, where it will remain until the application process is complete.

South Korea

·        U.S. citizens visiting South Korea for 90 days or less do not need a visa, but they do need to apply for a Korea Electronic Travel Authorization (K-ETA) before boarding their flight.

·        For stays over 90 days, students are required to obtain a Student Visa (D-2). U.S. citizens can apply through a South Korean Consulate. Some consulates may require in-person appointments for application.

Among other requirements, students will be asked to show proof of acceptance in a study, volunter, or internship program and provide proof of financial means. Sweden

·        In the case of Sweden, all semester and yearlong students must apply for a Residence Permit prior to departure.

·        U.S. students applying for a Swedish residence permit will be required to apply at the Swedish Embassy in Washington, D.C., prior to their departure for Sweden.

Taiwan

·         U.S. students appling for a resident visa should apply through a  Consulate. South Carolina residents can apply through the Consulate in Atlanta.

·       Resident Visa holders are required to apply for an Alien Resident Certificate (A.R.C.) at the city/county police headquarters nearest to their residence in the Taiwan within 15 days after their arrival. They may stay in Taiwan as long as the A.R.C. remains valid.
