About this Fellowship
The Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences offers a 10-week summer experience for undergraduates wanting to build their skills as young scientists.
Deadlines are typically in February, but be sure to check the competition website for the current cycle’s deadline.
Students must have completed two or three years (a rising junior or senior) at a U.S. college or university at the time the SURF program begins, have a grade point average of at least 3.0, and must be seriously considering a biomedical research career as a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D.
Students are able to indicate a specialized research area on their application and may choose from the following areas: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering and Physiology, Clinical and Translation Sciences, Immunology, Molecular, Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, Neuroscience, Regenerative Sciences, and Virology and Experiments.
Award Value
Awardees receive $6,000 (used to cover travel, housing, food, and other expenses).
