This cooperative agreement opportunity will establish and maintain a national interdisciplinary research network designed to reduce the gap in exposure to language among children from low-SES families, as compared to children from higher-SES families, also known as the "word gap". The research network will foster scientific collaboration, with a focus on research designed to develop and test interventions to improve early language exposure, vocabulary acquisition, and language development for children from lower socioeconomic status (SES) backgrounds, including Dual Language Learners (DLLs). The Network should include researchers across a range of disciplines reflecting attention to the health and development of the child and family.
