NIH: Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) (P20)PAR-16-415The National Institute of General Medical Sciences has just released its new Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) (P20) funding announcement. The objective of the COBRE initiative is to strengthen an institution's biomedical research infrastructure through the establishment of a thematic multidisciplinary center and to enhance the ability of investigators to compete independently for complementary National Institutes of Health (NIH) individual research grant or other external peer-reviewed support. COBRE awards are supported through the IDeA Program, which aims to foster health-related research by increasing the competitiveness of investigators at institutions located in states with historically low aggregate success rates for grant awards from the NIH.
USC may only submit only one application in response to the 2017 COBRE competition. Your application submission MUST be coordinated with the Office of the Vice President for Research. Those interested in submitting should send a 3 page summary of the overall center (excluding references); one page descriptions/Specific Aims of each proposed project and core; and CVs of the PI and potential target faculty to Beth Herron (bherron@mailbox.sc.edu ) by 5 pm on Thursday, September 15. Please send these documents as a single PDF file.
The 2017 COBRE applications are due January 24, 2017 (with an LOI due a month prior); direct costs are limited to $1.5M annually, with the exception of the first year which can include an additional $300,000 for infrastructure/equipment. For questions, please contact Beth at the above e-mail or at 777-2885.
