Pew Charitable Trusts: Health Impact Project

The Offices of the Vice President for Research and Corporate and Foundation Relations are pleased to coordinate an internal call for proposals to The Pew Charitable Trust’s Health Impact Project. The Health Impact Project offers funding to communities and organizations seeking to promote the consideration of health in policy and decision-making.

Grants will be awarded for up to $100,000 over a 24 month period.

The current Call for Proposals is focused on addressing the social and economic factors that contribute to health, including education, employment, family and social support, and community safety.

The goals of this funding opportunity are to: 1) Support the use of health impact assessment (HIA) to improve health where it is shaped in families, neighborhoods, schools, and jobs; and 2) Build the capacity of organizations to conduct HIA to bring both health evidence and community voice to decisions made in sectors outside of healthcare.

This CFP only supports grants for HIA that address health in one or more specific counties located in certain states, including South Carolina. The eligible counties are: Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Chester, Clarendon, Colleton, Dillon, Fairfield, Hampton, Jasper, Lee, Marion, Marlboro, Orangeburg, and Williamsburg.

Organizations can only submit one response to this CFP. Note that while non-community based applicants are allowed, the budget should direct resources to the community in which you will be working.

For the internal deadline, please submit a two-page response that includes the following:
• The social or economic factors do you hope to address through the proposed HIA.
• A discussion of how these factors contribute to differences in health outcomes (disparities) between population groups in the communities where you are working.
• A description of the expected geographic level of focus. You can work at state, regional, or other decision-making levels – but you do need to include counties from the approved list.
• A discussion of how you will screen for an HIA topic – who will be included in the decisions?
• A brief description of your prior work on health equity, determinants of health, and cross-sector collaboration that demonstrates your potential to complete the expected activities.

Applicants will be notified by early August if their proposal has been selected to move forward for full submission to this competition; the proposal deadline is September 15, 2017.
