DOE’s Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) program has announced its interest in receiving applications for Building EPSCoR-State/DOE-National Laboratory Partnerships. These partnerships advance human understanding of the physical world by supporting fundamental, early-stage energy research collaborations with the DOE national laboratories. (Information on the DOE national laboratories including links to websites can be found at https://www.energy.gov/about-national-labs.) Participation by graduate students and/or postdoctoral fellows is required. Junior faculty from EPSCoR jurisdictions are encouraged to apply. Utilization of DOE user facilities is encouraged. Funding for this program ranges from $150,000 - $250,000 annually for 3 years.
Universities in EPSCoR-eligible states can only submit 3 pre-applications to this competition. To be considered to submit as one of the three pre-applications from USC, please submit the following as a single PDF to Beth Herron (bherron@mailbox.sc.edu) by 5 pm on Tuesday, December 17:
• A cover page with the project title; PI name and contact information; program area; name of DOE National Laboratory participating in the proposed research; and name of DOE National Lab program staff participating in the proposed research.
• A three page narrative that describes the research and proposed accomplishments, including a clear statement of how the National Lab will be involved. The narrative also should indicate how the proposed project relates to DOE’s programmatic needs, and what value it will bring to DOE and the National Lab partner. Finally, the narrative should discuss potential equipment needs and anticipated results. An informal statement of costs (2 – 3 sentences) should be included.
• An NSF-formatted biosketch for the PI.
• An e-mail or other written commitment from the National Lab is strongly encouraged. Pre-applications for USC’s internal competition that include this will be given preference. (A commitment letter is required for the submission to DOE).
