The mission of the BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation is to support projects that improve health outcomes and increase access to care in the Palmetto State.
Proposals are accepted in either the core health priorities OR overarching priorities described below.
The 4 Core Health Priorities are:
• Oral Health – improving the oral health care system by increasing access, enhancing workforce development, and supporting quality and innovation
• Mental Health – building resilience and well-being for youth and families by strengthening the mental health workforce, improving quality and coordination of mental health care, and enhancing collaboration in communities to support families
• Diabetes – in partnership with Diabetes Free SC, aligning efforts of diabetes-focused community partners across the Palmetto State
• Social Determinants of Health – supporting ways in which health care, public health, and social sector stakeholders can take coordinated action to address individual, community, and structural determinants of health equity.
Note: currently SC BCBSSC is not accepting unsolicited proposals for Diabetes or Social Determinants of Health.
Overarching priorities include access to care, building a stronger healthcare workforce, improving the quality and value of healthcare, and investing in the health and well-being of SC’s children and families. The BCBSSC Foundation only accepts a limited number of LOIs from USC per funding cycle. The USC internal deadline for this Call for Proposals is 5:00 pm on Friday, January 5, 2024. Applicants will be notified if they were selected to go forward to the external BCBSSC Foundation deadline the week of January 16, and the external LOIs will be due February 7, 2024.
Submission Process
Limited submissions for foundations MUST be coordinated with the Offices of the Vice President for Research and Corporate and Foundation Relations.
If interested in applying for this opportunity, email a two-page project abstract that includes a clear outline/statement of how your work meets one of the Foundation’s priority areas as well as the amount of funding you will be seeking (BCBSSC Foundation does not allow indirect costs). At the top of your abstract provide the project title, PI, and list of key collaborators. Additionally, please include a 2-3 page CV/biosketch for the PI and all relevant team members (SCiENcv preferred) by 5pm on the INTERNAL DEADLINE above to Beth Herron at bherron@mailbox.sc.edu.
