Required Community Education
These interactive and engaging trainings educate students on creating a safe and healthy campus environment and are based in research around the best practices for college students. Topics include substance misuse, sexual assault and interpersonal violence, mental well-being, and belonging. Failure to complete these courses may result in a registration hold.
To Start
Log in to Self-Service Carolina and use the links under the Community Education tab or check your USC email. If you do not see an email in your university account, be sure to look in the Other folder.
Fall 2026
- August 18: Part 1 Due
- October 18: Part 2 Due
Yes if:
- This is your first semester at USC Columbia,
- You are a freshman, transfer, change-of-campus, Gamecock Gateway, Pathways or international student,
- You are a returning or readmitted student who did not complete the courses when previously enrolled.
Note: There is no exception for age or prior professional training.
- After Part One of Either Course: If you complete Part One after Part Two deadline, you must email sape@sc.edu to have your hold lifted for 45 days while you are in the intersession.
- After Part Two of Either Course: The hold will remove itself within 24 hours. This may mean you will have to wait to register for classes.
- Trouble Assessing AlcoholEdu or Sexual Assault Prevention for Undergraduates: Contact the Help Desk if you're having trouble getting into a course from your Self-Service Carolina account. Email helpdesk@sc.edu or call 803-777-1800.
- Issues with the AlcoholEdu Website: The "Help" button in the upper right-hand corner of every course screen will take you to 24/7 online support.
Alcohol at Events
You will need to take a few preliminary steps before being permitted to serve alcohol at your next campus event.
Application Process
- Follow these guidelines to ensure you are hosting your campus event in accordance with the University of South Carolina Alcohol Policy.
- Take an Alcohol Policy Training Workshop
(Please fill out the form to be registered for the self-pace workshop in Blackboard.) - Complete the Online Event Registration Form

- If your event is at an unapproved location, we must receive your form at least 10 days before the event. For all other events, submit your form at least five days beforehand.
- All events on campus must utilize a licensed, insured third party vendor for alcohol
service.
Per BUSA 1.00 University Dining Services, the University’s food service provider has the exclusive right to provide catering services in non-athletic venues on the University campus for pricing mutually agreed upon in Contractor’s Catering Guide.
- Beverage Amounts
- A Healthy Carolina staff member will calculate beverage amounts using the Beverage Amounts Worksheet. We will return your form to you once approved so you can provide your vendor with beverage amounts.
