Our Research

For over 50 years, Baruch Institute scientists, together with researchers from around the world, have conducted short- and long-term (5+ year) research studies focused on advancing our understanding of coastal and estuarine systems.

Study Site

North Inlet Estuary—our primary research site—is an environmentally unique location that offers incredible research opportunities. Because of its essentially pristine habitat and water qualities, it serves as a sentinel site for climate change and provides an increasingly rare opportunity for scientists to assess impacts associated with human activities. To learn even more, visit North Inlet - Winyah Bay NERR or browse our Site Profile.

Research Visits

The Baruch Institute is an ideal setting for coastal, estuarine, and salt marsh-focused work, and we welcome outside investigators to visit and make use our our facilities. All research activities require prior approval by USC and the Belle W. Baruch Foundation, along with reservations to visit. Please see our Research Visits page for details.
