Bio
Shaundra Cunningham is a chaplain and scholar of geography and religion. She holds a Ph.D. in geography from the University of Tennessee, an honorary doctorate from Ursinus College, an M.Div. from Harvard Divinity School, and a B.S. in economics and marketing from the University of South Carolina. With family roots in Williamsburg and Clarendon counties, Shaundra’s work examines the American South and rural traditions of organizing, and moves through emotional landscapes, sacred rhetoric, human rights, and how people make decisions under pressure. Drawing on nearly two decades across clinical, academic, and social innovation settings, she brings a yellow sensibility to the classroom, striving to synthesize and scaffold ideas with curiosity and radical whimsy. She inherited this approach from her mother, a teacher who can make an ordinary Tuesday feel like enchantment, and from her father and grandparents, all educators in their own way. She is writing her first book on the spiritual cartography of sermons.
