Bio

Dr. Alex Greer is the Director of the Hazards Vulnerability & Resilience Institute (HVRI) and Professor of Geography at the University of South Carolina. He earned his Ph.D. (2015) in Disaster Science and Management from the University of Delaware. Dr. Greer's research sits at the intersection of climate change adaptation and emergency management, examining how policymakers design interventions to address the impacts of climate change and disasters and how individuals and households adapt their lives and homes to hazards. His work typically occupies the space between mitigation and recovery, where stakeholders make difficult decisions about how to reduce their hazard exposure. His peer-reviewed publications have appeared in venues including Applied GeographyClimate Risk Management, GeoJournal, Journal of Environmental Psychology, Natural Hazards ReviewRisk AnalysisThe Professional Geographer, and Weather, Climate, and Society.
