Aaron Wood is a choreographer, educator, dancer, and mixed-media designer. For seven seasons, he danced with Utah’s Repertory Dance Theatre where he performed an array of works by modern dance legends including Cunningham, Fenley, Gotheiner, Humphrey, Ito, Limón, Sokolow, and others. As a freelance dancer, Aaron performed the works of Alwin Nikolais with Ririe Woodbury Dance Company.
Aaron’s choreographic voice is wide-ranging encompassing over 10 musical theatre productions, 30 original choreographic works, and five evening-length concerts. His musical theatrechoreographic credits include Angry Psycho Princesses - The Musical, Addams Family Musical, Tarzan - The Stage Musical, Ride the Cyclone, and RENT. Select evening length works include Life/AFTER\Dark, The Yellow Wallpaper – a dance/theatre adaptation, and Shadowed Winds and Ghost Roads. Aaron’s works have been performed on national and international stages from Salt Lake City to Beijing, China. In 2023, his choreographic work The Making of Me was selected for the American College Dance Association National Festival, a nationally recognized choreographic showcase. In addition to his choreographic work, Aaron has served as rehearsal director for acclaimed guest artists and companies, assisting in the staging and coaching of original works by David Dorfman, Repertory Dance Theatre, Cleo Parker Robinson, and Contemporary Dance Wyoming.
Aaron has facilitated dynamic dance classes, workshops, and community-based programs at institutions including Utah Valley University, Casper College, Idaho State University, University of Idaho – Moscow, University of Nebraska, Western Wyoming Community College, and Dancer’s Workshop. His educational outreach encompasses public schools, dance studios, and American College Dance Association festivals across the country, which further extends his commitment to dance education and community engagement. In 2022, his contributions to the performing arts were recognized by the Wyoming Arts Council, which awarded him a prestigious Performing Arts Fellowship.
Aaron’s research interests include the intersectionality of identity and community within social and political landscapes, as explored through the integration of multi-media elements and diverse movement modalities.
