Background

Whitney Maxwell, Pharm.D., MBA, BCPS, is a clinical associate professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Outcomes Sciences who joined the USC College of Pharmacy faculty in 2011.  She currently serves as the Associate Director of Experiential Education and the Upstate Experiential Education Coordinator.

Dr. Maxwell earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in 2008, completed PGY1 residency training in 2009 at the University of Virginia Health System and completed a PGY2 pharmacotherapy specialty residency with an emphasis in Family Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2010. She received board certification as a pharmacotherapy specialist in 2009.

Dr. Maxwell received the College of Pharmacy Clinical Pharmacy & Outcomes Science Department Excellence Award in 2019 (Excellence in Scholarship), 2016 (Excellence in Teaching), and 2014 (Excellence in Service).  In 2016, she also received the American College of Clinical Pharmacy Ambulatory Care Practice and Research Network Outstanding Member Recognition Award and the University of South Carolina Class of 2017 Professor of the Year Award.  She received the Faculty Extra Mile Award in 2013.

Dr. Maxwell is active in several professional pharmacy organizations, including previously serving as the Chair of the Leadership Development Special Interest Group (SIG) of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) for the 2020-2021 academic year.  She also previously served as Secretary of the AACP LD SIG. Her service to the LD SIG also includes chairmanship of several LD SIG committees in recent years, including the Programming Committee, the Membership & Professional Development Committee, the Leadership Toolkit Taskforce, and the Resolutions Committee (co-chair). She also served as the American College of Clinical Pharmacy Pharmacogenomics Task Force Vice Chair from 2014-2015.  Within the state of South Carolina, Dr. Maxwell served on the Society of Health System Pharmacists (SCSHP) Board of Directors from 2016-2018, and has served on a number of SCSHP committees since 2011.
