Here at the Cancer Prevention and Control Program, we understand that to conduct research that is successful in ultimately reducing health disparities in our state, we must listen carefully to the voices of the community, as community leaders know best how to reach individual members to make real health improvements. Our Community Advisory Group comprises leaders from community organizations that have both a great interest in ensuring the health of their community and the ability to reach community members to affect change. Through their monthly meetings, the Community Advisory Group provides advice on the overarching goals and projects of the South Carolina Cancer Disparities Community Network-II. The Community Advisory Group keeps our researchers in touch with the greater community's needs and resources and opens up new avenues for future community-based participatory research projects. A rotating board of members ensures that a diverse group of voices are heard.
