Kuan-Wu Chen is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Political Science at the University of South Carolina. His research interest includes populism, comparative authoritarianism, comparative political theory, and comparative public policy. His dissertation topic is "Popular Justice or Populist Justice? Penal Populism and its Impact on Democracy." His dissertation discusses how do political leaders use rhetorical framing to justify their repression through criminal justice. Kuan-Wu Chen is the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Fellowship scholar and the recipient of Taiwanese Overseas Pioneers Grant.
