Clinical Legal Education

The School of Law recognizes that experiential learning in the areas of professional skills, professional ethics, and the expectations, values, and norms of the legal profession is essential to a well-rounded legal education.

The School of Law welcomes visitors to the building.  However, all visits must be scheduled in advance with the appropriate office, and all visitors must abide by all university and law school policies.

The University of South Carolina’s graduates enter the practice of law at a rate well above the national average for law schools, which makes the opportunities for experiential learning even more crucial. USC has continuously offered clinical courses since 1968.

Special student-practice rules adopted by the South Carolina Supreme Court, the United States District Court, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit allow third-year students enrolled in clinical courses to represent clients and appear in court under the supervision of a faculty member.
