Notable Events
Our events are always evolving to best suit the needs and wants of our ever-growing alumni family. Some occasions are one-time events, where others have continuously proven themselves to be favorite annual traditions.
Each year, the School of Medicine Columbia presents a number of prestigious awards to our most dedicated alumni and friends who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in their field or service to the school.
Each October, we host a SOMC Alumni Tailgate at Williams-Brice Stadium. This popular event welcomes home our alumni and their families for a memorable game-day experience.
Details for the 2026 event will be shared this summer.
Each year, we create customized reunion gatherings for all alumni from both our MD and graduate programs. This year's Alumni Reunion Weekend was held April 25-26, 2025 in Columbia and included an all alumni tropical soirée as well as private MD events for those celebrating a milestone reunion.

Opportunities for Engagement
Alumni involvement extends far beyond event attendance and financial support. Some of the most meaningful ways our alumni can engage with us is through volunteerism, mentorship and advocacy. We’d love to partner with you to purposely connect your passions and interests with the many engagement opportunities we have available, so you can better impact the School of Medicine Columbia simply with your time.
Our Alumni Association Board is one of the most prominent ways to get involved and serve as the voice for the alumni family. With a low time commitment and virtual meeting offerings, these leadership positions fit the busiest of lifestyles and still accommodate those living outside of South Carolina.

If we know anything, it's that our alumni are passionate about helping our students thrive. We place strong emphasis on not only enhancing the student experience, but also in creating alumni/student programs that serve as the backbone for building meaningful connections so that our students can advance in their education with confidence and knowledge.
