Posted on: August 7, 2020

University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy Associate Professor and researcher Kevin Lu, Ph.D., has been elected a Fellow of the International Society of PharmacoEpidemiology (ISPE). To be elected as a fellow is one of the highest and most prestigious recognitions an individual can receive from a scientific organization.

The International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology is an international organization dedicated to advancing the health of the public by providing a global forum for the open exchange of scientific information and for the development of policy, education, and advocacy for the field of pharmacoepidemiology. ISPE members represent the various scientific disciplines involved in studying drugs, including epidemiology, biostatistics, medicine, nursing, pharmacology, pharmacy, law, health economics, and journalism.

Consideration for fellowship is open to those members who are recognized as having leadership roles in pharmacoepidemiology and who are held in high professional standing and is awarded upon election by the board on the recommendation of a committee of current fellows (the Fellowship and Awards Committee).

I am looking forward to contributing my knowledge and expertise to take on the drug policy challenges that affect daily pharmacy practice.

Lu has also been named as chair of the Drug Policy Committee for the American Public Health Association (APHA), another significant professional accomplishment. The committee works to promote the public health perspective in regulation, policy development, utilization and outcomes evaluation related to drugs and medical devices.

Lu feels extremely honored by the recognitions. “To be chosen as a fellow and have my work and leadership recognized by peers who are at the highest level of scholarship in pharmacoepidemiology is an incredible honor,” he says, “and to be chosen as chair for the Drug Policy Committee means great responsibility and trust by my peers. I am looking forward to contributing my knowledge and expertise to take on the drug policy challenges that affect daily pharmacy practice.”
