In 2010, the U.S. Department of Education issued the “Program Integrity Rules”, which require institutions of higher education to be authorized in states where they provide education to be eligible to receive federal financial assistance. While parts of these rules have been challenged and vacated, other rules remain in effect, including state authorization in individual states.
Since federal and state regulations continue to evolve regarding state authorization, the University created a webpage to provide information to its current and prospective students regarding our authorization and licensure status. The authorization for the Palmetto College Campuses is included with the Columbia Campus.
Constitution Day and Citizenship Day is an American federal observance recognizing the adoption of the United States Constitution and those who have become U.S. citizens by birth of naturalization. It is observed on September 17, the day the U.S. Constitutional Convention signed the Constitution in 1787 in Philadelphia.
Written in 1787, ratified in 1788, and in operation since 1789, the United States Constitution is the world's longest surviving written charter of government. Its first three words –– "We the People" –– affirm that the government of the United States exists to serve its citizens. For over two centuries the Constitution has remained in force because its framers wisely separated and balanced governmental powers to safeguard the interests of majority rule and minority rights, of liberty and equality, and of the federal and state governments. Since 1789, the Constitution has evolved through amendments to meet the changing needs of a nation now profoundly different from the eighteenth-century world in which its creators lived.
To encourage all Americans to learn more about the Constitution, Congress in 1956 established Constitution Week, to begin each year on September 17th, the date in 1787 when delegates to the Convention signed the Constitution. In 2004, Congress added key provisions in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of Fiscal Year 2005 designating September 17th of each year as Constitution Day and requiring public schools and governmental offices to provide educational programs to promote a better understanding of the Constitution.
Each Palmetto College Campus holds activities on Constitution Day and Citizenship Day. Please watch the events calendar for updates. You can also explore The United States Constitution with this interactive website.
The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), passed by Congress in 1974, requires educational institutions to provide students access to their educational records, to allow students to correct inaccurate or misleading information in these records, and to limit the release of information to third parties. The rights parents exercise with respect to their children’s education records transfer to the student when he or she reaches the age of 18 or attends a school beyond the high school level. Visit the University Registrar's website for more information.
A Cohort Default Rate is the percentage of a school’s borrowers who enter repayment on certain Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program or William D.
