What Student Support Services Can Do for You
Student Support Services (SSS) AKA Opportunity Scholars Program, is one of the TRIO programs funded by the United States Department of Education. The SSS program primarily serves first generation college students who meet eligibility requirements. The program assists students in developing the skills and motivation necessary to successfully pursue a college education. This free program also provides individualized instruction to develop or strengthen the student’s identified needs in English, mathematics, and reading.
Comprehensive advising services and workshops are available to help students select classes, apply for financial aid, provide career guidance and address other student concerns. To qualify, a student must be a first-generation college student (neither parent has a four-year degree), be low-income eligible and/or have a documented mental, physical or learning disability
OSP also provides:
Financial Aid – help student complete FAFSA, acquire scholarships and grants.
Academic Advising – help with class scheduling, study skills and time management.
Tutoring - monitored by our specialists and academic progress is charted.
Career Planning – career plan assessments and goal setting.
College Transfer Assistance – assist student transfer to a four-year institution.
Cultural Events – attend on and off campus cultural events.

University 101 history
University 101 was developed at USC Columbia in 1972 and adopted by the USC Sumter campus in the 1980s. It consistently ranks as the top "program to look for" by the US News and World Report. Why? When you register for University 101, you'll be enrolled in a smaller campus environment that provides a built-in support systems to help you achieve personal and academic success. When you enroll, you may choose between a general section or a major-specific section, such as business, health professions or nursing.
Expect dynamic and interactive classrooms, hear fascinating outside speakers and have fun!
