What is Leadership Salkehatchie?
Leadership Salkehatchie is an economic development leadership program offered by USC
Salkehatchie in partnership with SouthernCarolina Alliance. The program provides participants
an opportunity to enhance their leadership skills while becoming aware of and involved
with community dynamics and issues facing the Salkehatchie region. Our diverse contingent
of participants represents a wide variety of employment
sectors, economic levels and demographic segments. This enhances the group’s ability
to understand an increasingly complex world and its relationship with the region.
SouthernCarolina Alliance provides full scholarships for participants to attend this
highly competitve program.
The Program
Leadership Salkehatchie’s program includes workshops led by subject matter experts which are designed to empower participants with the economic development knowledge and the skills needed to cultivate progress within our region. The program highlights the strengths of the Salkehatchie region and explores the obstacles facing small-town America. Program topics include economic development, education, the judicial system, local government, legislative advocacy, leadership skills, and diversity. Leadership Salkehatchie meets monthly in various locations throughout the Salkehatchie region as well as on the University of South Carolina’s Columbia campus. The group travels together to Washington, D.C. in May to meet with the region’s legislative delegation and with various representatives of federal agencies.
