Dean Reviews

Deans are responsible for carrying out the administrative policies of the University and educational policies of the respective units. Periodic reviews ensure that schools and colleges continue to have the highest level of leadership excellence.

Academic Deans are the administrative leaders of the university's schools and colleges.  They are responsible to the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost of the University for carrying out the administrative policies of the University and educational policies of their respective units.

Annual Reviews

Deans typically serve for an initial five-year period, with the probability of a five-year renewal and extensions beyond that point of service determined by the Provost and President. An annual year-end review of the Deans will be conducted by the Provost to identify successes and areas of improvement with respect to the goals established by the Dean and Provost at the beginning of the year.

Comprehensive Reviews

The administrative performance of deans shall be subject to recurrent formal comprehensive review at times as described in the University Policy ACAF 1.02 Periodic Evaluation of Academic Deans [pdf]. The provost shall have primary responsibility for selecting an internal, and possibly an external, review committee, delivering the formal charge to the committee, and establishing a timeline for the review.

See the Dean Review Schedule.
